Hosting and maintenance

“Web hosting is the lifeline of every website.”

Dr. Chris Dayagdag

Good hosting and maintenance services –  the storage and serving of website files and applications to the internet and the work to keep them running – are key to ensuring that your site is always available, secure and performing well.

Your choice of web hosting provider can be the difference between success and failure. Alongside the security and performance of the server itself, the hosting package lays the foundation for the maintenance of the site, the efficiency and ease-of-use of its utilities, such as backups, file management and logs.

To keep your site secure and performing well, it needs regular updates and maintenance. This requires a programme of backups, updates and testing, along with monitoring of ‘core web vitals’.

Working with us

If you are looking for the right hosting company, we can advise on the relative merits of different providers. We’ll report on the infrastructure, utilities, customer service and technical support, and recommend a provider that is the best fit for your codebase, internal resources, future scaling requirements and budget.

We are not affiliated with any web hosting companies and, as such, are ideally placed to provide unbiased advice.

We can evaluate your existing hosting and maintenance programmes and report on security and performance, making recommendations where applicable, and implementing them if required.

We can provide the platform-specific expertise to help with a particular hosting project or task.

Our maintenance service will ensure your sites are always up-to-date and performing well, by monitoring core web vitals and applying available updates, (with WordPress core and plugins needing particular attention), testing and deploying.

We offer this service on a monthly or annual retainer basis, with a service level agreement (SLA) to suit your requirements. For example, it can include some monthly support hours, which can be carried over up to an agreed amount of time, giving you the flexibility to use your time for any of our services to suit your needs throughout the year.

All our services have a dedicated point-of-contact.

Our approach is client-centric and agile. The process will vary according to the project and your preferences, but the general outline is likely to be as follows:

The process

  • Initial meeting – Establish roles and responsibilities, preferred ways of working.
  • Discovery phase – Explore with you project goals and audiences. Gather knowledge and supporting data from you. Together, set success metrics, finalise a project plan. Supply a cost breakdown.
  • (You may have completed the Web development process with us, in which case the Initial meeting and Discovery phase will also have been completed).
  • Consultancy phase – If required, research hosting providers, the infrastructure, utilities, customer service and technical support, and provide a report with recommendations. Advise on and implement site and data migration.
  • Maintenance phase – Put in place monitoring and a programme for applying available updates and testing. Provide an SLA setting out the service, any development hours etc.
  • Reporting – We will update you regularly on how the site is performing against agreed KPIs.
